We are proud to be able to offer our own ‘home-cooked’ meals, made on site. Shirley, our School Cook, along with Carly and Jaz, work hard to ensure that every child is offered a freshly prepared school lunch. There is a choice of hot and cold food, including hot meat, vegetarian dishes and jacket potatoes, as well as a seasonally changing salad bar. There is also a choice of desserts, including fresh fruit and yoghurt. We send out menus in advance and ask our families to make their choices of lunch and send them back to our School Office to ensure that each child receives their chosen lunch on the day they wish.
Most of our families take up the option of a warm and nutritious lunch for their child. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are all able to get a Universal Infant Free School Meal which is paid for through government funding. Some families (Year 3 and above), in receipt of family benefits, may be entitled to free school meals and the school will support these families to receive government funded free meals.
School meals offer excellent value at £2.40 per day for Key Stage two children. Lunches can be paid for via Parent Pay.
Break Time
During break time, we encourage our children to eat a piece of fruit to keep them going until lunch. Children in Key Stage 1 have access to ‘free fruit’ supplied by Lancashire County Council, which ranges from apples and pears to tomatoes and carrots. As a school passionate about keeping children healthy, we actively discourage chocolate, biscuits and crisps as a break time snack.
